Sorry for lack of updates. I'm busy livin' out here on the west coast! I have been shooting tons of photos, but just none of skateboarding. I have been shooting a few events for local venues here in Vancouver, as well as a few other towns. So, I am staying busy. Here are a few snaps from a couple shows at one Venue called Mad Hatter's. This is their first year open, and they are doing very well for themselves!

Vancouver Begins....

As most of you know, I have made the move out west to the lovely city of Vancouver. As the guys from the YouTube sensation videos "Epic Mealtime" would say... That's Fuckin' Smart! Anyways. I haven't shot anything since the move, but the other day/night, I felt it was time to get down to business. Geoff, Cory, filmer Ty James, and myself took a cruise around the lower mainland to Bonsor, Queens borough, and the new Surrey skatepark. It was a day trip to PUT UP POSTERS FOR THIS. Later that night, Cory and I went to Lee Side, where the filming of the BLVD Skateshop Store Wars video was taking place. Here are some of the photos from the days journey.

Cory called me up, saying he had a few ideas for spots around town. It was actually a great skate day! We didn't get kicked out once! My batteries were dead, but didn't die, and I was able to get a few shots in at each spot! Dylan joined us from comic relief, and Simon was there to get it all on film. It was one of those days that you hope for, but never expect to get.

Cory wanted to go back to the PM handrail for some unfinished business. Unfortunately, it still remains unfinished business. Cory was simply having a bad day and couldn't pull some of his warm-ups. After messing up his finger pretty bad, he decided to call it quits for the day. He did, however, land a front board... Here's the shot.

This was a second shot. This was more experimental. No flashes involved, just natural light and shadows. I was feeling it, so you can enjoy it.

I didn't know what to call this one. Either way, it was my first day back to skating from my trip to Africa. (Will post those photos another time) It was also my first time in a month shooting some skate photos. Yes, these shots are from the park, but it was a weekday, and school was still in, so the spots we wanted to go to would have been busts within 5 minutes. None the less, it felt nice to lug my gear around with the lovely weather we have been experiencing once again in Canada.

Fort Drerie

Warm temperatures, and cloudy skies provided a perfect day for shredding some park. It started off with Dylan, Rivard, Simon, and myself just cruising around and warming up. Later, we met this guy, and he was shreddin the bowl. He did a boneless first try, and it was too stylish not to photograph. I walked up and asked him if he would want to do it again for a photo, and without hesitation he was down. The session would continue on afterwards with a few bangers going down by everybody. No other photos since I was skating as well. But you do get to enjoy the photo of Ward's boneless

Today was one of the first days out in a little while from the previous warm up. The weather went for a shit again for a little over a week, and we had to wait for it to melt. Cory, Dylan and myself got together and started off at the park. Warmed up our re-rusted legs and shook off the full-time job blues. After the park, we grabbed some grub and hit the streets. We went to a gap to electrical box spot and Cory wanted to hit it, but traffic would keep interfering, so the plan was ditched. I ended up deciding to ollie a gap I've been wanting to do for a while, and ended up getting a photo out of it. After rolling away 3 times, I wanted to try a long lens shot, but ended up slamming pretty hard and deciding my efforts were no longer needed. Here's some shots from today.

Cory Steezin' out a front shuv about 5 times in a row. I personally love watching him do these.

Dylan wanted to learn a new trick. He learned a switch Bigspin Flip. The picture is his first time landing it. Fuck flatland, go straight for the launch.

This is the gap I've been eyeing for a year or so now. Today I finally ollied it. I couldn't be happier! Thanks to Dylan for shooting the photo, and to Cory for moving the flashes out of the road each time a car would drive by.

Let It Begin!

It's March! We have survived a horrendous winter! This one was particularly brutal with snowfall, after snowfall, after snowfall. Constantly being bombarded with the weather meant even indoor skating was difficult with cold temperatures as well as tough driving conditions to even get to an indoor spot. But, with Hell, comes a little Heaven. With yesterdays perfect, sunny, calm weather, as well as perfect 10 degree skating temperatures, it wasn't hard to see that everyone was itching to get the winter rust off their legs. The session consisted of Trevor Rivard, Cory Traynor, Dyllan Nykyforak, as well as myself. While driving to pick up the guys, almost every corner I drove past had kids with skateboards in hands. That put a big smile on my face. Once the guys were in the car, we took the 30 minute drive to the For Erie skatepark to get warmed up for the day. Once everyone was warmed up, I decided to pull out the camera gear and get the winter rust off them! Stayed at the Fort Erie park for a little bit, then decided to make our way back home to the Niagara Skate park. The session ended up going all day long with perfect weather all the way through. It was definitely one of those days that you didn't want to end. Here are some photos from the days session.

Unfortunately, Cory didn't land this 360 Flip, but he definitely came close. The bench was the session ender. Definitely super fun to get back into the swing of things.

This is the Lakai x Crailtap Colabo shoe. I'm unsure of when it was made, but it has been a few years. I purchased the original of this shoe before the colab came out, skated them, and enjoyed the board feel from them. The toe cap, even though it's suede, lasted for quite a long time, and the stitching lasted longer then most. The Crailtap logo can be seen in great detail on the highlight image, but what can't been seen is the "Crailtap" sole. On the bottom of the shoe is a see through rubber, displaying the brand name. Definitely a shoe for any collector, skater, or someone looking for a comfy shoe for everyday. While shooting Antigravity Skateshop's new shop, I noticed these and had to get a snap of them. Snag a pair while they are still available from the shop.

Prod Nod of Approval

The Fallen Chief is a skater's skate shoe. I have had 3 pairs and I can say without a doubt, they are one of my favourites. The inside hugs your foot like a glove, and the vulcanized sole allows for a ton of board feel and flick. I am very susceptible to heel bruises, especially in vulc soles, but the Chiefs were able to keep the bruising at bay. They broke in right away and have no issues skating out of the box. No microwaving needed. If you have skated these and want them again, or are looking to try something a little different from your norm, I highly recommend the Fallen Chiefs. I know Antigravity skateshop has a few left. I shot this while I was doing a photoshoot for their new shop. Go there and get them before they are gone.

Kitsch Skateboards, a Vancouver based skateboard company, is set to release their first full length video. With full parts expected from Stacy Gabriel, Geoff Dermer, Sean McAllister, Mike Hastie, and home-town hero, Cory Wilson. The video looks to be a very high quality piece of work from the likes of Jordan Mayfield. Their teaser for the video has been out for a little while now on the SBC site, but has finally been released for personal use. Take a minute, watch, and imagine how good this video will actually be!

KBYE Extra...

Jordan has recently released his feature film "KBYE" to the public. SBC has asked me for some photos from skaters in the video and I sent them only 2 shots. I was digging through my hard drive for my friend Andrew Jones (who had a part in the video) since he wanted a photo. I realized then that I forgot to send this one to them, and not only that, but had been saving the shot for sometime without anyone seeing it, except close friends when I had my laptop on me.

So this one is for Andrew "Danger" Jones. He worked hard for this and deserves a lot of credit for pulling this. It, to me, was a gnarliest thing I have seen in person go down at Vic Park.

Winter = Barn

We received another wallop of winter weather here in Niagara Falls. Close to a foot of snow. Basically making skating outdoors impossible unless you are the warmest person on earth. Now, that being said, we went back to the barn for a fun session, which turned into quite a gnarly one. I didn't shot as many photos as I would have liked to, but I did get some of the crazyness going down.

Jordan Guzyk, good homie, great filmer, worked on this project for at least 2 years, and does it ever show. A great piece of work that you can set your eyes on for the next 40 minutes. It has some gnarly tricks from Byron Ready, Dave Hnatiuk, Colin Findlater, Tim Bobnis, and a whole host of other dudes who rip. Great work Jordan, You've really outdone yourself.

Barn con't....

A Canadian winter is not only long and harsh, it comes with a side of creativity. Canadian skaters have to become "artists" and either find odd spots to skate, or simply make something out of nothing. Phil's barn is a castle of creativity. Wood, metal, screws, and a brain has created this place for Niagara skaters to continue on through out the winter and progress at their on will. Cory, Dyllan, Phil, myself, as well as a few others have been making visits to this barn over the winter and learning new tricks on the regular. This is a few from our recent trip.

Winter has arrived

Now that the snow and cold weather has arrived, many of us do the whole hibernation thing. Indoor skateparks, garages, even basements if we can. Luckily for us here in the Falls, a good friend, Phil has put together a small indoor skatepark (which is still under construction, but will be done soon). We were able to session it today and I decided to bring my gear to shoot some photos. It was something I needed since I haven't shot much in a little while. More photos will be posted later on the Barn's website, but this is one I decided to keep to show you a small preview of what's to come.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have barely been shooting and haven't really had anything to update with. Anyways, an old friend, Jake Antonio, recently bought a house, and has decided to build a mini ramp in his back yard. It's super fun. You can't tell by the photos, but it's got a fairly tight tranny that isn't as smooth as it looks either. It's still a super fun ramp to be on. I decided to shoot some stuff tonight, and as luck may it, I even got a photo!

Final Day In Vancouver

Today is my final day out here in beautiful Vancouver, B.C. It's rainy, cold, dreary and down right dull. Perfect day for a blog post! Yesterday was so fun though! Cory and I did the bike ride tour of the city. Hitting up the whole city. East, West, North, and South. We took a trip along the seawall and biked around the whole thing. The city is absolutely gorgeous and it's a shame I have to leave. I have a ton of photos that need to be uploaded and posted on here, so expect a big update in a few days.

The last few days have been great! Great weather, great times, great people, and above all, great skating! Cory and I took a trip to Ultimate Dist. and scoped out where Concrete Skateboarding Magazine is made. It's a tight ship and everyone is super chill. Brian Caissie was out of the office, so we were unable to see the photos he shot in Seattle, but he is a busy dude. After getting some product, and taking the dime tour of the warehouse, Cory and I returned home. I headed over to Mike Graveline's house where we hit up a bank spot in which he destroyed! The next day, we hit up Hastings, as well as Lee Side. Hastings is gnarly. Lee Side....is gnarly. Here are some shots from the last few days for your enjoyment.

Vancouver/Seattle trip

I know I haven't updated this in a long time, and my apologies. Ok, this is a good one though since I am currently staying at my friend Cory's house in the heart of east Vancouver. The day I arrived, Cory surprised me with a trip to Seattle with the Kitsch skateboard dudes and photographer (and personal idol) Brian Caissie. The trip was for 3 days of straight skating and no demos. Some guys from Seattle showed us around. Josh Andreson, and Joe (forgot your last name buddy). Both dudes ripped. Thanks guys, definitely had a fun trip. Back to Van, I have been skating the plaza, and checkin out spots. I was also able to meet up with some friends from back home, AJ and Trevor Blades. I wasn't able to see them all summer, so coming here and getting to see them was definitely sick. The other day was the RDS Skins comp at the plaza, in which Paul Trep destroyed it with a switch back smith down the BIG flat bar, as well as a switch back noseblunt, and switch flip back lip down the big handrail. So sick to watch that stuff go down. I have another week here until I'm home and I plan to make the most of it. Not many photos have been shot since I've been doing more exploring then shooting photos. Here are a few shots from the Seattle trip as well as stuff from Vancouver.

They are a fun bunch to shoot with too because they always think of something, somewhere that is awesome to watch and shoot. Simon sent me a message saying he wanted to try some things that he had been thinking about, and no more then 20 minutes later, Rivard sent me a text saying he wanted to skate. None-the-less, both Simon and Trevor Hooked up and got a hold of me one more time (This allowed me to charge my batteries) and I was on my way. A solid day of street skating, and a fun session at a local park down in the country to finish it up. Here are 2 photos from our first location at a school in the city.

A good friend to all of us has been banned from PUBLIC property. Do you find this fair? If you were told that you were no longer allowed to enjoy your life long hobby at the only place that it could be done safely, legally, and without fear of getting the boot from a local business, or if not worse, getting a ticket from police, what would you do, and how would you feel. Trevor Nedea, owner and operator of Antigravity Skateshop has been banned from the Niagara Falls PUBLIC skatepark. Reasons behind it are that he had allegedly served alcohol, vandalized the skatepark, and cerated a large mess which took over 2 hours to clean at an event which was attended by many friends and family members, along with skaters all over the city for Trevor's late father, Anthony. This is nothing but lies for a few simple reasons. Trevor Nedea, along with his mother do NOT drink alcohol. Any vandalism at the skatepark has been there since the day it opened up to the public with tons of VIDEO footage as proof to this graffiti. This so-called mess that took 2 hours to clean up is completely false. Garbage cans are provided on a day-to-day basis at the skatepark, and that they were used throughout the day. This ban is completely, and totally bogus. It is a public facility. This means that Trevor will once again, have to skate in the streets, and infront of businesses. Well then, lets see if he won't get a ticket for that! Plus, not to mention, I think the city would rather have him in a controlled environment, rather then a possible threat to businesses if he was to fall and break a bone. (Not like he would sue or anything, but businesses sure like to use that excuse)

If you wish to help in this cause, there are a few people you can email.

One person, is kmoldenhauer@niagarafalls.ca who is in charge of this. The more emails this person receives, the more likely they are to lift the ban.

Another person, who I have already emailed, is Steve Berra. Now, for every skater, they know who this is, but for those who don't, he helps run "The Berrics" which is a website for skateboarding, and he has helped with many causes in skateboarding, and I feel that if he were to receive enough emails, that he may want to take part in the initiative to help life the ban. Lately I haven't been shooting too much. Kinda of a bummer. It's been a lot of work, and a lot of sleep. The past week or so has been brutally hot, but for some reason, I have been shooting more. Here are a couple flicks that have been going down over the past week. Hopefully this trend of shooting will continue.....

So Simon decided to call me up on my challenge of doing a back disaster on the 7 foot extension at the park. Mind you, I asked him to try this a few months ago and he said he would go for it once he learned them. Well, that time has come. He called me up and said I want to shoot the back D on the 7 footer. I agreed, and met him at the park. But never-the-less, he came to show me how a man skates. He pulled about 25 back disasters in a row. He only did them this many times because it was starting to rain, and he knows my gear isn't waterproof. So, this one is posted with my tail between my legs, and also a big thumbs up to Simon. You're gnarly dude!

Been in London for a few days. Good times with AJ and some homies. We went to the Kiwanis plaza today and I was able to meet this kid named Jamie. He has the sickest style, and a sick bag of tricks. He killed the rail with a perfect back smith first try, then went for this back tail which took a matter of minutes to get.

Golden Days

Spring has arrived a bit early! I am excited to say that we have been the lucky recipients of 15-20 degree weather, no wind, and beautiful blue skies. I decided to take the camera gear to the park, and miss out on some seriously needed sleep. Skated with a bunch of people, and a bunch of little kids who kept getting in the way. Once I had my fun, it was time to get down to business. Here are some shots from today!

Barn Yard Animals

This winter is much more bearable this time around, and is for one good reason. Our friend Phil is in the works of building Niagara Falls' first indoor park. It is still in the building plans, and should be ready for next winter. In the meantime, Phil has allowed a few close friends to keep themselves occupied by skating what is available. Today, Dyllan and Cory came along and since I'm injured, I decided to shoot a couple photos to show the park, and to practice my photo skills. Try some new things. It was definitely a fun session, besides the -12 tempurtures outside, making it -10 inside, and when you are a photographer, you aren't moving around too much, so you tend to sit and freeze. I thought it was well worth it though. Here are some shots from tonight.

So this winter I'm trying to figure out the limits that my gear can take. This shot of Trevor was shot a few days ago at our indoor barn. I am using flash, which I haven't done before, and for some strange reason, I feel I won't be doing again. WAAYY too much of a pain in the ass. Anyways, it's an update, which I know have been lacking. Sorry. Been busy. I have no plans of updating it too much this winter since work is taking up most of my time, and not too many photo ops are available.

We have a new spot in Niagara Falls. It is actually quite fun if you are down to skate a flat bar. It's under a roof, and fairly unexposed to weather. So far bust factor is quite low, but since it is at a new hotel, this will soon turn into a 1st try Friday deal. Anyways, Dyllan, Chris, Cory, and myself went to the spot. Cory skated, Dyllan filmed, Chris watched, and I took the snaps. It was quite a fun night. Here is a shot of Cory doin a front board at the pretty much virgin spot.

The end of the season is upon us here in Canada. When sun and warm weather turns into grey skies, rain (then eventually snow) and 5PM sunsets. The time when skateboarders bunker down in the security of underground parking lots to perfect their flatland. If you are lucky enough to find an underground where you don't get kicked out, you might just be able to enjoy a flat bar. In the meantime, let's just remember the good times from summer. Workin Dubs

Well, I was thinking of holding this photo, but then I realized that I am a photographer. What kind of magazine would run a photo with a caption that reads "Steve Pritula - Ollie / Photo: Pritula"? I didn't actually shoot the picture. My good friend Dave Hnatiuk shot it for me after I set everything up for it. This spot is pretty big, but the run way is perfect. Now, the landing is another story. If you can't already tell from the shot, the landing is rough as fuck. There was also a lovely crack which I had to continually land on. Every time I would commit to it, I would land, and just be tossed like a rag doll from going full tilt. This is one spot I don't really want to go back to, unless I am photographing it.

I am now back home from London. The trip was a blast despite the rain and humidity keeping things a bit wet. The trip was well worth it with some gnarly tricks going down, and gnarlier slams being captured. My hands and back have now been shredded to bits. (check the facebook shot for that one!) Other then that, everything went perfectly.

AJ broke his board doing the most insane trick off the Bandshell I have ever seen. He ended up getting it with my board. You are going to have to wait for Jordan's video "Kbye" to come out to scope the footy.

Who says playgrounds are for little kids? Right beside the Niagara Skatepark is a small splash pad filled with pole jams, and little things here and there to skate. This one is of PJ doing a stock Pole Jam on one of the many obstacles to skate. By the way, That little circular frog thing, is only about 5 feet high. Crouching is a must when going through it, unless you want to get knocked out by a steel frog.

A few days ago, Trevor, Dennis, and myself went to the ledge spot to get a couple tricks. Trev had a few things in mind, and had Dennis with us to film. Trev did his usual warm-ups, and got right to business. He just didn't plan on business being this tough. He was going for the bigspin out, but for some reason, his body and board wouldn't listen. This spot doesn't fuck around. Runway is long and smooth, as well as down hill, but the take off also is down hill making it harder to pop. The landing is rough and choppy. Bust factor isn't too bad. The one owner allowed us to skate for another 45 minutes since we weren't causing too much harm. James took some gnarly slams over it today, and you get a glimpse of what you will be walking away from if you skate this gap. This is if you are lucky...

Anyways, today was our first day really filming on it. Family coming over is always fun. We play Cribbage, and drink. LOTS! Anyways, one time I decided to pull out my camera and have some fun with them. They know I shoot photos, and at first they are always uncomfortable with it, but then get used to the fact I'm not going to stop. This particular night was also the first time any of them had seen a medium format camera. They were simply amazed by the fact that it was so big...and not digital. After a while, they started relaxing, and didn't even realize I was there.

It looks a lot worse then it feels. I have been on my feet non-stop for the past few days. It does bug me since the pressure is pretty bad, but it is somewhat bearable within reason. Nothing an ibuprofen can't handle somewhat. Anyways, I hope for everything to be back to it's original colour in a week or so. I'm praying that the ankle is back to 100% in a month or so. Thanks to everyone who I grossed out, or simply put into shock by showing them that a foot can actually look like the way mine does.

It's been a while since I have been able to update my blog. Sorry! No wireless internet to steal, and no wireless router to make my internet wireless! Too much techie talk. Anyways...the joys of working 2 jobs, and one of those jobs being midnight shifts has left me no time to shoot many photos as of late. Kind of a bring down. My schedule consists of: 1. Wake up at 3PM. 2. Shower, eat a bowl of mini-wheats and ingest pills the size of your thumb by 4PM. 3. Drive to work through tourist traffic to be at work for 5. 4. Finish work at 10:30PM, then rush through more rush hour tourist traffic to make it to my second job for 11:00PM. 5. Work till 7, 8AM then go home to sleep. 6. REPEAT. The joys of life.

So, in some of the moments that I had some free time, I went to the park, and shot some photos on the rock beside the park with PJ. Here is a blunt fakie that is a lot harder then it looks.

Loss of a True Soldier

On a cool morning of July. The skateboard community took a heavy loss. It may not have been a professional skateboarder, nor some local up & comer. It was a great man who looked at skateboarding in a different way. Anthony Nedea (Co-Owner of Antigravity Skateshop) was a man of many, MANY words. Sometimes it was hard just to shut him up. But everything he would say, was either a great piece of knowledge, something that brought a laugh and smile to all who heard, or something so rediculous that you had to argue about it with him. Good luck winning that argument, Anthony would go for days about something. He was always so sure of himself, and it showed very well.

Anthony always walked tall, and insured that he was noticed. Everyone knows who he is, and everyone will never forget who he was. A man of rough beginnings, to someone who was living the "Canadian" dream. Owning his own business with help of his son Trevor, and loved one Mei.

Antigravity will always be my second home, and with the loss of Anthony, I feel that his memory will live on forever within the walls of the shop. Everytime something falls, or creeks, I know that will be Anthony watching over us.

Farewell my friend. I will miss you with all of my heart. When I arrive at those golden gates, I'll make sure to have the 6 pack ready.

A little bit of London

I had a few days off, which allowed me to go back to London for a short trip. It was definitely worth it. Plus, I had to pack up some things from my house when I was in school. Anyways, Colin, Tim, Dave H, Dave A, Jordan, and myself all squeezed into my car and hit up Western U. Nice 10 set indoors, and a nice 8 set outdoors. We sessioned the 8 set for a while, and got some decent footage! Then decided to go in to try the 10 where some crazy-ass shit went down! Not sayin anything though! You're just going to have to wait on Jordan's video, which I have no idea when it will be released.

It's been a month of sprained ankles, broken cameras, and nothing but working 2 jobs full time. Not one day off this month from so much work!

Anyways, the future is lookin' bright. Nikon finally sent my camera back to me in working condition! It also made it a great day since I got my full G driver's license. The day got better as I got off work early, and was able to go skate on my freshly healed, tender ankle, and go shoot some pics with some friends.

Dave was a champ and was down to try this a bunch of times for different angles, and different photos. This one was my favourite of the night. The shot was so hard to shoot since it was on a super busy bridge. Cars were coming inches away from hitting one of my flashes that was on the road (against the curb) Trevor decided to knock over one of my flashes first thing when we got to the spot just by rolling up and down the bank and slipping out. The flash will require some repair, but it's still working.

This was my favourite angle and photo of the night. Dave with this kickflip on a foot wide, steep as hell, sketchy runway bank.

Well here in Niagara Falls (and my second home in London) the weather has taken a turn for the better. Lovely Blue skies, warm weather, but not sweltering, and minimal to no wind. Great for getting those tricks back that were lost in the harsh winter that we just endured.

The Sutton Trip

This trip was hecka fun. Sutton is a small town by Lake Simcoe. My friend AJ gave me the dime tour. It's pretty much the same thing as any other city when you are 20 years old. Drink, drink, skate, eat, drink, sleep.

The drive into Toronto was smooth until....

Now in Sutton, had a bunch of friends come over to the house and had many brews. This was about a third of the crew.

The next day, we went to the small town's bar called "The Mansion House". The whole population over 19 goes there, and it still isn't that busy.

I know I haven't posted too many skate pics recently. But it's been winter, so back off! Anyways. This past week, I was up in Newmarket/Sutton stayin at my friend AJ's house. So we skated outside for the first time in a long time at the Keswick skatepark. Later, we went to the Newmarket Competition. I broke my board skating the double set, so I was out of it fairly quick. The big handrail session was intense! My friend Colin Findlater was warming up on it, so I decided to grab my gear and shoot some pictures.

Colin did this nosegrind about 5 times in a row. Only because he wanted to make sure he had it on lock. In the competition, he front blunted it perfectly 2nd try. This kid rips.

This is a band I have been listening to for a little while now. They are called "Blind Pilot". Amazing sound, and great work! I strongly suggest if you are into indie, folk, alternative music, you should really look into these guys. I purchased their album off of the iTunes Store a little while ago. Yeah, it has been a slow week. Not much has been happening. The only thing I could really update you on is how bad my memory is. Trevor, Andrew, and myself went to The Rail skatepark. Which was super fun. I skated the double set for 4 hours straight, and am still sore. It has been 4 days since we have been there. Anyways, me being the total idiot that I am, I left my board there. I had to buy a new complete the other day. Which is okay since my old board was chipped to shit, the trucks both had broken base plates, and my bearings were shit from a previous session when they got soaked in water and mud.

Some good news is that I have purchased a new phone for myself with a neat little 2.2MP camera on it. Once I figure out how to upload the images to my computer. I'll be able to do more daily posts with images that show how boring my life really is.

Close calls

I have had many close calls in my life. From almost being struck by lightning...TWICE...to skateboards flying towards me and/or my lens. I've had close calls with police officers planning on giving me skate tickets, but somehow talking them out of it. Hell, the other day I had a close call with almost getting into a car accident since some goof-ball didn't check his blind spot when he went to change lanes. Either way, these things happen.

Here is a close call from about a month ago when I was photographing my friends Matt Bujok, and Bradley Hesson. On this one, Matt decided to launch a little to far over the rail, and in turn almost landing right on top of my camera. It may look a fair distance away, but it was very close. My lens was also soaked from the spray of his landing and launch.

If I ever come across any close calls again and capture it on camera, I'll be sure to post it on here. It will make for some very interesting pictures.

It makes me happy to say that my camera gear is finally 100% complete. I have all the gear I need, AND wanted! I haven't been this excited in a long time. I'm just stoked that everything is ready to go, and the nice weather is finally starting to come around. All of the snow has practically melted in Niagara Falls, and my home in London. Thanks to Terry Worona (www.woronaphoto.com) for switching me to Nikon from Canon. Also, thanks to Shane Hutton for allowing me to buy basically his arsenal of flashes.

Hopefully this upcoming season will be full of progression that I will shoot for everyone.

Pre-Summer Jitters

Well, we are having this lovely short burst of warm weather, which certainly calls for skating. So far, each time I have gone out, the layers of rust are slowly falling off, and I am getting my tricks back, as well as learning new ones. Trevor and I were able to skate the Falls skatepark while I was down for a few days from London. That session lasted a few solid hours of non-stop manny pad skating. That was no doubt, the best day on a manny pad I have ever had. After the session, we went and chilled at the shop, then skated this guys barn sorta thing. Very simple with a box, flat bad, and a small drop, or transformable manny pad. Skated that till about 2:30 in the morning. Trevor and I were training our flatland by doing 10 tricks in a row of the same trick. We did this for a bunch of tricks. It was a super super fun session, but today, my legs are really sore.

The jitters part is that my right knee (the one I destroyed at the end of my part) has been acting up again, and really giving me a hard time by locking up, or just really hurting when doing simple movements. I have scheduled a doctor's appointment, and am hoping that my knee won't have any issues. I'll let you know how the tests go when I go for the appointment.

Yeah, it has been too long for this update. No excuses, I was simply drinking and skating with good friends.

Ok, now to the point...About a week ago, my friend Trev and I filmed and help shoot a local online talk show. It's called MOC Talk. It is a show that interviews local, and/or up and coming artists. Either in art, music, or anything like that. They are curently working on episode 3, but you can check out episodes 1 and 2 by CLICKING HERE.

Another day

Well, I am back in the falls till Wednesday I would say. I am doing nothing but working on pictures from recent work, and also preparing my knees for snowboarding on Tuesday. If you must know, I have started working out, trying to become a bit more fit, only because it's winter, I'm eating horribly, and not skating that much. So doing my standard crunches and sit-ups. I have also started using this weird machine in my basement that my parents got from my grandparents. Hopefully I can become a lot healthier for the summer.

My good friend, Dave Hnatiuk finally premiered his european tour video called "The Very Brilliant European Skateboard Adventure". The whole video was amazing! Props to Dave with a trick I have never even seen done before with a Fakie Half-Cab Double Heelflip Manny at Parrallel. That one made the crowd go bonkers! The video had a fun vibe with all-round amazing skating. Even some funnies of 30 Champagne bottles being corked, one after the other added some humour into the mix.

The night was great, see a skate video, and then afterwards some friends and I went to Crabby Joes to watch UFC 94. St. Pierre dominated. The dinner was hella good too! And no Erika, you can't have my hoodie!

Anyways, go buy this video from Dave....definitely worth the money!

Yes, I know I slacked HUGE on the daily update, but here is some good news. The next few days will back packed full of photos from some recent work I have done. So suck it!

If you trust want an update, this week, I did some job hunting, and went grocery shopping. The other day, I photographed a internet talk show called "Moc Talk". Check it out, it's pretty sick with live performances and whatnot. Today I went and photographed a few of the Dialogue Headwear guys at the McMaster snowboarding Jib Jam. Dialogue's very own Yuri Tereshyn took home first place respectively.

Here is a shot from one of the many gap to tricks that Yuri pulled on the kinked rail. This would be a "Shifty to front board" according to Yuri.

Not much went down, chilled at the shop, bought some shoes, a hat, a t-shirt, and a hoodie. I'm pretty hyped on the hoodie since I needed a new one for a long time. Anyways, I ate the biggest meal I have ever bought from Wendy's. Double cheeseburger meal, with 3 chicken snack wraps. I'm a slob. Anyways, with that meal actually filling me up, I had the rest of the day to play some online poker where I won a few thousand bucks. I want to play for real money.

After the shop closed, Trev and I headed out to the mushroom for a few brews and some chicken fingers. We were watching the winter X-games where this nut on a snowmobile almost landed a double backflip. I was screaming in the bar of how insane it was. I'm not too sure many people cared. Oh well.

I hate UPS....

Yes, ok, I know I am slacking big time on the daily blog entries. It's been kind of slow really. All week I sat around my house, and at night would go skate, come home, then pound a few brews back with some friends.

Some good news that has come around though is that a good friend from London of mine, Dave Ayres, is now on the team at Antigravity. CONGRATS DUDE! The kid has the best frontside flips that I know of, he destroys mini-ramps, and most definitely has a sick bag of odd, and fun tricks. Feelin the fakie half-cab double casper flips buddy! I am home for the weekend, picking up another order of pocket wizard radio slaves, along with another flash hopefully by the end of next weekend.

Man, today went so bloody slow! Woke up, watched some Kenny vs. Spenny, got my breakfast and shower on. Had to hit up the grocery store for Trevor since he is stayin at my house for a few days. Also went to Harvey's for the first time since the break, which was 2 weeks ago. Best burger I have ever had from there. Anyways, came home, and played some serious online poker where Trev lost over $25,000...in fake money. I played some tournaments and lost, but later went into a high stakes table and won it all back and then-some. Now we are just finishing up the day by watching the Vancouver and San Jose game. So far it's a good, yet slow game.

A quick little thing to keep you on your toes is that some good things may be coming up in the future. I'll let you know when to look for it, if it comes out.

This past weekend, a good friend of mine came down. Matt Bujok brought down his friend, Brad Hesson. The kid is 15 and rips. The above shot is Brad warming up on the Fireman's Park rail. He did it like nothing. It was a great session. It went on the whole day from noon till close to 11:00 PM. It started at Fireman's then moved it's way to Stamford High School. The crushed everything the whole day. I am saving the majority of the shots, so you guys will have to wait to see the good ones.

Sorry aboutt he other day. If you truly want to know what I did. I drove home, talked to my Mom, then went to my buddy Trevor Nedea's Skateshop. Here is the website for it. Click Here. After chillin at the shop, we went to his house, played some online poker, where I got crushed since the wireless connection was garbage. We ended up going to the bar, having a drink, and some wings. They were actually really good. Not to mention helping Sasa out with his iPod mess.

Anyways, today, was once again, a simple day. I did however, buy a new camera bag for my film gear. I have 2 bags full of camera gear and couldn't be happier. Anyways, went to my buddy's skateshop again, chilled out and played some SKATE. Once that was over with, went to Trev's house where I watched "Borat" for the first time. Yes, I know it has been out for a substantially long time. I found it fairly funny, with a few thoughts of how he didn't get shot on MLK drive. Once the movie was over, our friend Matt Bujok came int eh door with his homie. I'm sorry, I forgot his name! Anyways, we went around the city scoping out spots to snowboard. We decided not to hit anything tonight since it was too snowy and that both my gear, and Trevor's gear would get messed up from the amount of snow. So we just sort of made plans for tomorrow to hit up a rather gnarly rail, which I may have photos for.

I might want to save them to see if any of Matt's sponsors may want them.

career change

It's not so much that I don't want to be a photographer...it's more that I know it's hard to make a living in this occupation. I have left the photography course at college, and plan to attend Environmental Science. It's completely different, but it's something I am interested in.

Anyways, today was a super good day. Chill around, sent out some mail, and also went skating with some good friends. Even though there is a lot of snow on the ground, we still went to the nearby parking garage and shredded flat, and a super long manny pad that is waxed to shit. After about an hour or so of this. We went to my favourite restaurant in London, "Prince Albert's". It's so good, and they know my order. Chick Souvlaki. So good. Anyways, that place is always number one to end a session with. After this, came home, had a few drinks, got a bit loose, and hung out playing Skate on the xbox.

I'll be coming home this weekend, and am looking forward to it, yet not looking forward to it in the same way. We will see how it goes...

Well, today could have gone a bit better, but all in all, I'm not too upset. I messed up with school, and so I will have to start it again next September. I don't think I was ready for school anyways. Not for me. The good news is that I have a new camera. I bought a Bronica SQ-a with all the fixin's. I bought the fisheye, which has been on my list of items to buy for the past few years. It also came with the 50mm wide angle lens. Something I truly don't really need, but may end up using. It also came with a couple backs, as well as the waist level finder and prism. I also bought a negative scanner for when I actually do shoot film when the weather gets a bit better.

I bought a flash online from BH photo, and so that is coming in...tomorrow...actually, so that's sick. Then this weekend, I am hopefully getting my 5th flash from a photographer in Toronto. I will be sending him the money for it tomorrow. So after getting these last 2 flashes, my camera gear will be 100% complete. Finally at where I want to be with my gear.

Hopefully things will be on the rise this year. I will be shooting with an old friend this weekend. He wants to his the Fireman's Park rail, which to me, is friggen gnarly. But again, Matt Bujok is gnarly guy. Youtube him.

Life has been going really well for me lately. After a long run of having some bad luck, it seems almost everything has turned around. Things like my old camera gear being stolen, both my pets running away, failing some classes in college because the professor didn't put the marks onto the schools system, and so on. The good luck started when I realized that my camera gear that had been stolen that it was covered by insurance. Once that came in, all good things started happening. Obviously with the money, I was able to buy the gear I needed, rather then the camera gear I could afford. I was able to pay off my car loan, as well as any debts I had were paid off. Me and my Dad seem to be a lot closer, which for me is a good thing because in my younger years we were never close. School has started this semester, and I plan to work excessively hard if need be. Also, a little bit ago, I was able to meet a photographer who I always look for in skateboarding magazines. Shane Hutton. He's a super chill guy. So that for me was a big deal. I am hoping that this will be the year I get a published photo. I still need to figure out my camera gear a bit better, and then, things will start rolling.

I have decided that I am going to make a post every single day on here. Could be able anything. As usual, I will try and post as many pictures as possible, but it's winter, and I'm not one for lugging my gear around all the time if I don't have to. I'm going to buy a little point and shoot for fun times, and whatnot.

It's been a slow winter

I know I haven't updated this in a while, but it was mainly due to the fact I didn't have any flashes, and was unable to shoot sequences since there is plenty of snow and salt on the ground. Recently though, I picked up some flashes from a photographer in Toronto, and am now able to shoot some pictures. There really isn't much to skate in London. This super long curb is in an underground parking lot. Dave and some friends waxed it up, and then tonight, myself and dave waxed it again. It's like butter. Anyways, now that I am able to shoot something, I may be able to post more pictures from time to time. Above, my buddy Dave is back 50-50ing the curb. It may look small, but its fairly hard to skate since the top of the curb isn't flat, so locking in to grind is super tricky. This is also my first photo with the new flashes that I have bought. I still need to get a feel for them, so don't judge this pic too much. Hopefully there will be a nice indoor park, or even better underground to skate soon, and quite possibly shoot some super good pictures. I hope everyones break went well!
